Nearly twenty-five thousand households in southeastern Queensland were left experiencing outages on the start of the week after powerful weather events impacted the area, bringing wind gusts hitting 109km/h.

Substantial Frozen Precipitation and Extensive Impact

Locals reported large ice chunks reaching sizes of 7 centimeters in certain regions. The Bureau of Meteorology confirmed that various areas across the state had been impacted by significant hail.

Response teams were focused on reestablishing power throughout the impacted areas, with approximately seventy teams working to handle the widespread outages.

Southern State's Weather Woes

Simultaneously, approximately one thousand energy customers in the southern state also faced power outages after Melbourne recorded its heaviest rainfall in a year and a half.

Emergency response teams responded to 598 calls for help across the area, mostly for building damage but also for fallen timber and flooding.

• Hoppers Crossing suburb - various assistance requests
• Wyndham area - 179 calls for assistance

At one point on the previous day, over 28,000 energy customers in the state were without power.

Climate Outlook

Damp conditions were forecast to persist along much of the state's eastern regions this coming days as a atmospheric system continued to draw in moisture against the shoreline.

Tuesday was forecast to be the heaviest precipitation period, with persistent thunderstorm potential anticipated across different parts of both regions.

Medical Alert

Public health experts cautioned that there was an increased chance of thunderstorm-induced asthma across the countryside regions, specifically given the current weather patterns.

This caution comes after previous incidents where analogous circumstances led to substantial respiratory problems in the region.
